Youth arts are coming to Brightmoor! 

 

Thanks to a Skillman Foundation Good Neighborhoods Initiative Grant, The College for Creative Studies (CCS), Public Art Workz/The Artists’ Village, Leland Baptist Church, The Detroit Public Library, Don Bosco Hall, and P.E.E.P.S. are working together to bring the arts and youth support to Brightmoor neighborhood youth. 

 

 

College for Creative Studies After-School Arts,

Tuesday and Thursday, 4:30 – 6:30 pm., Leland Baptist Church

Artists from CCS will be on hand to lead in-depth, professional art instruction in partnership with Leland’s Rites of Passage Experience (ROPE) program.  ROPE serves youth Mon. – Thurs. with a variety of activities including homework help, entrepreneurship, dance, puppetry and basketball.

Saturday Arts for Middle School Students 4th – 7th grades

Detroit Neighborhood Arts Workshops, Saturdays

Intermediate classes 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, Advanced classes 2:00 – 5:00 pm

This long-term program prepares Middle School Students with a serious interest in the arts and strong family support to apply to Detroit’s quality High School art programs by preparing their personal art portfolio.  In-depth art and design classes will be taught by College for Creative Studies Community Art Instructors. Students must interview to be accepted into this program.  Families can get information by calling Don Bosco Hall  (313) 869-2200, or CCS (313) 664-7821.

Classes will be at the Detroit Public Library, 21200 Grand River

 

 

Saturday Arts for High School Students

Detroit Neighborhood Arts Corps, Saturdays, 1 – 5 pm, Beginning in October

Through this entrepreneurial youth training program conducted in collaboration with the College for Creative Studies (CCS), PAWZ (Public Art Workz) and P.E.E.P.S (People Enriching Empowering People Services), high school students will engage their community through public art projects such as murals, public sculpture, art events, graphic arts and design.  Students can earn community service hours for high school and college application requirements while having their art in the public eye.  For information, call CCS (313) 664-7821.
